Stitching can create small holes in the fabric, and this can become ingress points for water, even if the stitching is very close and of high quality. Some stitched bags used seals to assist in the waterproofing, but these tended to crack and peel after some time and lost their efficiency in keeping out the water. The modern method of assembling dry bags is to use thermal processes that melt the material together. Some manufacturers may carry out the same welding process by using electromagnetic waves to join the equipment after it is heated. These techniques create a seal between the various parts of the bag. The bag is then waterproof and has seals which will never become dry or peel off.
